Historical scientist Edward Jenner

This biography text for year 6 and P7 describes Edward Jenner’s life, linking to the topics Animals including humans and body systems and cells. Edward discovered that people who had been infected with cowpox didn’t catch smallpox. Within twenty years of its discovery, Edward’s smallpox vaccine had saved millions of lives. In 1980, the World Health Organization declared that smallpox had been completely wiped out. Today, there are lots of different vaccines available that protect us from many dangerous diseases.
