Animal adaptations

Linking to the topics evolution and inheritance and biodiversity and interdependence, this lesson pack is for year 6 and P7. Pupils will learn how species adapt to their environment and why some species gradually change or become extinct. Pupils will create a simple investigation, considering the independent and dependent variables, where they will see how the shape of an animal’s paw can affect the foods they eat.

This pack includes:

  • A lesson plan, complete with an explanation of adaptation.
  • A PowerPoint presentation that explains animal adaptations and sets up the investigation.

Simple to resource! The items you will need:

  • Different types of gloves
  • Chopsticks
  • Foods which need to be opened
  • Stopwatch or timer
