A non-fiction biography text for year 5 and P6 about the female scientist Hilde Mangold, who discovered ‘organiser cells’ in newts. They have the power to organise nearby cells, telling them what part of a newt they should grow into. Hilde and Hans Spemann (a top zoologist) realised that other animals must have organiser cells too. Body cells don’t just follow their own instruction as they develop, they get clues from nearby cells as well.
